Inspector, South Police Division – 5/08 to Present

·         Overall commander for uniform patrol in the four police patrol districts in South Philadelphia, as well as the detective division. 
 
Inspector, Major Investigations Division – 3/02 to 5/08
·         Commander of the Detective Bureau Division consisting of the Major Crimes Unit and the Special Victims Unit. In January, 2006 the Division was reorganized and the Homicide Unit was added and Special Victims Unit moved under another Division.
 
Captain, Special Victims Unit – 12/98 to 3/02
·         Commander of the unit charged with investigating all reports of sexual assault and all reports of physical abuse of children.
 
Captain, Internal Affairs Division – 8/97 to 12/98
·         Commander of a group of approximately 10 investigators of supervisory rank who investigated citizen complaints against Police Officers.
 
Captain, Homicide Unit – 12/94 to 8/97
·         Platoon commander of a squad of about 15 detectives and 2 Sergeants.
 
Lieutenant, Narcotics Field Unit – 4/91 to 12/94
·         Supervised a Sergeant and a squad of 10 investigators conducting undercover narcotics operations.

·         Platoon commander in uniform patrol districts.

Captain Anthony L. Washington
Commanding Officer - 17th District
 

Captain Anthony L. Washington was assigned as the Commanding Officer of the 17th District, May 2009.  Prior to this command, Captain Washington was assigned to the 12th Police District and the Command Inspections Bureau.
 

Captain Washington was appointed to the Philadelphia Police Academy on November 14, 1988. After graduating from the Police Academy, Captain Washington was assigned to the 19th Police District.  His other assignments have included the following: Corporal – 25th & 23rd Districts; Sergeant – 16th District & Narcotics Field Unit – North Division; Lieutenant – 39th District.

Captain Washington is a graduate of Murrell Dobbins High School and has obtained an A.S. – Criminal Justice from the Community College of Philadelphia, B.A. – Criminal Justice from Alvernia College, and a Masters Degree in Public Safety Management from Saint Joseph’s University.  Additionally, he is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
